Mother Goose Parade 2009

In July of 2009 Sam was comandeered by the Mayor of El Cajon to help "save" the largest parade in San Diego County; The Mother Goose Parade, held every year for 64 years and in danger of being cancelled. The Mayor asked Sam if he could pull a few "publicity" stunts to call attention to the need to save this amazing tradition and "gift to the children". Sam as "The Last Real Pirate" comandeered a city council meeting and gave a rousing speech rallying the community, city council and parade directors to band together like a pirate crew to "weather" this storm and stay the course to a successful parade! Sam called upon a few friends in the television media who covered the event and his friends in the entertainment industry for help.

After the great response to the "comandeering" of the city council meeting Sam was asked to join the Mother Goose Parade board of directors. With only two months to rally the crew Sam spearheaded the fundraising efforts and produced "The Tribute to the Stars" fundraiser held at the East County Performing Arts Center featuring the top A-List Celebrity Tribute Artists in the country for a "red carpet" Gala Event which included "paparazzi" Celebrity doubles and an amazing concert by the top No Doubt Tribute band in the world. The event drew the attention of KUSI News who covered the event during a two hour live segment.

After rallying sponsors, securing the Park View All Stars as the Grand Marshalls ( thanks to the Mayor of Chula Vista ) and a tireless media blitz parade day arrived in November along with 250,000 thousand people according to 10 News.

The City of El Cajon rewarded Sam with a proclomation declaring Sam The Pirate Day on January 12, 2010 for his countless hours of volunteer work with childrens charities, at risk youth and for helping save The Mother Goose Parade.

A month later Sam was also nominated for Citizen of the Year. At the ceremonies he was bestowed with proclomations and recognitions from San Diego County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Diane Jacob, Congressman Duncan Hunter Jr., Assemblyman Joel Anderson as well as Senator Hollingsworth.

Sam is a talented motivational speaker who uses humor and wit to motivate and inspire corporate teams, small busnisses school children, with his "Stay the course of your Dreams!" presentations. Sue Clarkson who interviewed Sam for a promotional video said " he has an amazing ability to connect with people"

Most recently Sam's "pirate' themed inspirational writings were featured by East County News.Net in their very own column titled "Pirate Zen". They were so well received that East County News.Net named Sam - Cultural Ambassador for San Diego East County.
